Keeping Afloat: While the newspaper industry struggles, how does one free weekly survive?
Look Local is a small free newspaper distributed in the area where I live. I worked there between March and April and later wrote this article as coursework for my journalism degree. This is also a sort of test post for Tome Journals. Enjoy!
“When the paper started it was one A4 sheet that Adrian printed in his bedroom and delivered himself.”
A humble beginning, but the Look Local newspaper is now a 24-page publication with a readership of 30,000. The paper has operated from its office in the heart of Stocksbridge town for ten years and has seen other local businesses come and go, but now more than ever it is feeling the strain of being a free, weekly newspaper relying on advertising…

Work on Sunday.
Work on a sunday! Until 3 pm. isn’t that fun – overtime. I’ve got a little scar on my hand, it’s in a shape of an ‘L’ I’m listening to “all I need” matchbox. I’m also going to buy Mpfx slipcast latex for a mask I’m making. Designing a mask isn’t just fun it’s work [...]

A list! Stolen, yes, but still good.
Right, it’ll be a while until I can find any time to write an article for this, but seeing as it’s been ages since I’ve posted, then I shall throw this at you all. It’s the list I took from a book (Which has since been returned to the library; I think the title was [...]

Tablets, the next craze or not?
No, I’m not talking about popping pills here, but the upcoming ‘craze’ in tablet PCs (and Macs of course). Apple, the company that makes lovely arty products, is expected to announce the iSlate soon. The iSlate, if in fact that will be its name, is a tablet PC, meaning it’s a computer without a keyboard, [...]
Dead Until Dark.
I didn’t have much time to so this, so here we go. This is a fantastic book full of mystery, suspense and romance. The only complaint I have with it is there was too much sex, but the story was so intriguing that I just couldn’t put it down. I have read five more books [...]
Vampire Fodder.
Upon a recent jaunt into the neighboring town where I was hoping to purchase a selection of new reading material it was put forward that there was none. I stood in the store Waterstones and looked upon row upon row of undead, forbidden love books that have been churned out with little thought. This is a [...]

This took me a little while, and seeing as I have just purchased this phone I thought I’d review it. Motorola hopes an upcoming raft of Android handsets will breathe new life into the cooling corpse of its mobile phones efforts. The company has made a promising start with the Motorola Dext. The Dext smart phone is [...]
