For the past ten years or so Google has slowly been expanding its reach, until it has become just about the single most influencial force on the net.

It’s creed is ‘Do no Evil’, but there’s nothing in there about seeing, hearing and recording! And that’s what they do. They gather information. Every search you make, every link you click on is recorded. This includes your location (from your IP address, which is also recorded). These records are kept, if not forever, for years.

Whilst there’s nothing much you can do about this whilst you are logged in, if you aren’t logged in you can use a new service that’s specially designed to mask your Google searches.

It’s called Google Sharing. I’m not really sure why you should use this instead of a regular proxy, but hey, it highlights this issue.

Remember, Google is watching you!
